Judas Iscariot is overcome with remorse and hanged
himself early that morning. In the 3rd hour (9 am), Jesus
endures accusations, mockery, beatings, abandonment,
and an unlawful trial and is sentenced to death by
crucifixion, the most horrible and disgraceful method
known at the time. Soldiers spit on him, tormented him, and
pierced him with a crown of thorns. He carried his cross to
Calvary, then nailed at His hands, wrists, and feet. He
speaks his final 7 statements. 1. Father, forgive them, for
they know not what they do. 2. To day shalt thou be with me
in paradise. 3. Woman, behold, thy son! Behold, thy mother!
4. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 5. I thirst. 6.
It is finished. 7. Father, into thy hands, I commend my spirit.
At the 9th hour (3 pm), Jesus dies, fulfilling His atoning
sacrifice. A Roman centurion says, "Truly this was the son of
God." The realization is just as awe-inspiring today as it was
then. By 6 pm, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea take
His body down and lay it in a tomb.
How can we show gratitude for the Savior's sacrifice in our
daily actions? And forgive others.
