What makes Minnie Mae Wilding-Diaz’s upbringing unique is that her parents are Deaf and she is the oldest of nine children, all of them also Deaf! A teacher at heart, Minnie Mae has taught both American Sign Language (ASL) and English in a variety of college and university settings, and at church. Translation is another passion, ignited by her calling as Head Translator of the ASL Book of Mormon in the 1990’s. In this groundbreaking role, Minnie Mae initiated several firsts, including completing the first book of any kind to be translated completely into ASL. Minnie Mae is also a proud co-founder of a charter school in Utah - Jean Massieu School - now part of the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. Minnie Mae is married to Julio Diaz, and they have three grown children that they, of course, dearly love: Briella, Julio “Tres” and Isabelle. In her spare time, when there is any, she enjoys quilting and reading.
